• More than 85 percent of primary schools are privately run
• Most schools are not registered
• Most schools receive minimal government oversight

Students in Haiti

• Primary school enrollment is 75 percent
• An average Haitian, 25 years or older, has less than 5 years of schooling
• 75 percent of children at the end of first grade and 50 percent of children finishing second grade can’t read a single word
