What is “Sustainable Development” and why is it so important?
Sustainable Development (SD) is a term used to describe long-term partnerships for the purpose of community advancement. Effective SD is accomplished through continual Needs Assessment of host communities and aid focused on training and empowerment. SD is the foundation of our vision to Redefine Aid. Development is not accomplished through handouts. Development occurs when organizations and individuals commit to long-term solutions focused on training up local community members. Aid which is only focused on giving things and supplies can lead to dependence and a crippling of local economies. SD leads to independence and increased amounts of dignity in local community members.
I want to sign up for a trip, but what kinds of trips does P4H host?
There are two main types of trips within P4H – Impact Trips and Conferences. Impact Trips are faith-fueled trips where individuals have an opportunity to partner with churches in the host country to provide training opportunities to community members.
Our Conference Trips are focused on specific professional development areas such as Teacher Training and Youth Leadership. Individuals on these trips have a passion for the area of focus and prepare workshops to present during these annual conferences.
Both of our trip offerings are heavily focused on training and empowerment. P4H also takes time to invest in the knowledge and understanding of sustainable development to each trip member by providing trip meetings prior to departure and learning opportunities in-country.
